Neuropsychological testing provides evidence for specific disorders that may be significantly impeding an individual's ability to succeed in the home, social, academic, and/or work environments. Neuropsychological testing provides understanding through an extensive, detailed process designed to accurately recognize and appreciate each individual’s unique processing of his or her world. Testing is essential for individuals (or parents) to understand and find the resources to reach their absolute potential, success, and happiness.
Getting to Know Doctor Geringer
Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to get into a career path that would make a difference in people’s lives. This interest grew into my undying passion for understanding how the brain works and how this uniquely affects individual behavior. As a licensed Psychologist in the Ventura County area, I am committed to the well-being of all my clients and go above and beyond to uncover their distinct, personal needs.
I am ‘home grown’ in Ventura County. I received my bachelor’s
degree in Psychology from California State University
Channel Islands, where I began researching and presenting at
conferences on physiological reactions, prosocial
behaviors and emotions. I then went on to receive a master’s
degree in Clinical Psychology from California Lutheran
University, followed by a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology
also from California Lutheran University.
I then received a two-year certificate in Neuropsychology
Specialization from Fielding Graduate University. My
master’s degree thesis and doctoral dissertation both included
extensive research on physiological reactions to
emotionally eliciting stimuli and whether innate personality
characteristics influence emotional reactions. While
completing my internship and postdoctoral fellowship at Reiss
Davis in Los Angeles, I commuted quarterly to the
University of California at Berkeley in order to complete a
certificate in neuropsychological assessment. I also
completed specialized training in Autism Spectrum Disorders and
received certifications in the ADOS-2 and ADI-R. In
addition, I completed a master’s degree in Forensic Psychology
in order to gain a better understanding of legal
implications of psychological testing, including independent
educational evaluations. I believe in lifelong learning
and look forward to completing many future courses to further my
knowledge.
I began my clinical training at the CLU Community Counseling and Parent Child Center in Oxnard, California where I conducted individual therapy for all ages. I then continued my training working for Ventura County Behavioral Health. At their Simi Youth and Family Clinic I conducted many psychological assessments, provided individual and group therapy (CBT), and led a parent support group for parents of children with mental health problems. At Ventura County Behavioral Health’s Oxnard Office (A New Start for Mom’s) I provided individual and group therapy, including “Seeking Safety.” My formal internship followed at Reiss Davis Child Testing Center in Los Angeles where I provided psychological testing for children while receiving extensive training in various testing materials, procedures, and interpretation of results. My post-doctoral fellowship at Reiss Davis included additional training and experience testing children for Autism Spectrum Disorder. While at Reiss Davis I was their research coordinator, acting as their primary researcher, trainer, and liaison for a research collaboration with Dr. Stephen Porges and Keri Heilman at the University of North Carolina. This physiological research project sought to understand physiological processes and auditory processing issues of children with mental health issues. After working at Reiss Davis for three years I decided to open my own private practice in order to serve those in the area where I raised my family and where I call home – Ventura County.
In addition to my clinical practice I have taught many psychology courses at California Lutheran University and California State University Channel Islands. The courses I taught included Psychophysiology, Learning and Memory, Child and Adolescent Development, Introduction to Psychology, Counseling and Psychotherapy, Psychological Perspectives of Men and Women, Parenting, Psychological Research and Statistical Methods, and Theories of Personality.
I have also enjoyed providing lectures to local church groups and other public forums about various mental health topics to help the public gain a better understanding of psychological processes and to encourage hope.
Getting to Know Doctor Sandford
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in psychoeducational assessments. I have always felt passion for the field of psychology, and I have enjoyed over 15 years of experience.

My clinical expertise includes testing, clinical management, individual and family therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, staff training, parenting education, and program development.
My approach to testing is comprehensive, individualized, and strengths-based. I provide a warm and friendly approach, and I aim to help you or your child feel comfortable and engaged with the assessment process. Playfulness and flexibility are incorporated during our time together, with opportunities for breaks and games.
I honor diversity and inclusivity, with respect and consideration of one’s cultural factors.
I live in Ventura County with my husband and three sons. My favorite activities include walking my dogs, exploring botanical gardens, and discovering local events with my family.
“Kelsey’s self-esteem has greatly improved throughout the last year
since we implemented recommendations from our psycho-educational
evaluation. We now have a much greater understanding of her
strengths and how to help with her weaknesses. Kelsey cried when she
made honor roll, continued to make the honor roll all last year and
now made a new goal for herself to make a different list. Her
confidence has grown thanks to Dr. Geringer's help and understanding
of how she thinks. Kelsey seems more like Kelsey. We couldn’t ask
for much more than that.”
~ Mrs. Chun
“We see our boys with a whole new set of lenses and they are much
clearer to us. I am so grateful for your patience and understanding.
The changes we have made based on your recommendations have impacted
our daily life tremendously.”
~ Ms. Mathews
"Dr. Geringer is the only Psychologist/Educational Specialist we
would use for academic testing. We were fortunate to have her for
our oldest daughter, who told us how friendly, patient and caring
she was. When the results came in, I was nervous. But, Dr. Geringer
explained the results in a positive way and was very patient. When
we needed to have testing done for our youngest daughter, Dr.
Geringer was the only psychologist we would consider! She is a
consummate professional who I would strongly recommend to any
parent."
~ Mrs. Decker
