NEURODEVELOPMENTAL

Disorders That Occur in the Developmental Period of Life

A neurodevelopmental evaluation includes testing for symptoms related to Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADHD, Cognitive and Executive Functioning, Memory, Learning Disorders and Psychological Disorders. This is an extensive evaluation that targets most areas where an individual may develop problems in functioning. This evaluation is for an individual that is having problems in many areas and needs to consider and/or rule out a variety of possible diagnoses. Often diagnoses are comorbid, indicating that one diagnosis goes hand-in-hand with another diagnosis. For example, 50-70% of those independently diagnosed with ADHD also are diagnosed with a learning and/or psychological disorder (Brown, 2000). It is not uncommon for a child who is struggling with reading to also have problems with attention and/or anxiety. This evaluation helps to pinpoint the areas that need to be focused on to provide the child, adolescent or young adult with the supportive services they need to be successful.

Also included in this evaluation is a comprehensive report with explanation of test results, accurate diagnosis, recommendations for academic, home and therapeutic environments, and appropriate referrals. Parents should expect to spend approximately 3 hours for the intake interview and to complete parent evaluation forms, up to 12 hours of child/adolescent/young adult in-person testing and 1-2 hours for the feedback session. During the feedback session parents are invited to meet with the evaluator to review testing results, discuss recommendations and ask questions. A physical copy of the report will be provided to the parents at the feedback session.
