The Interaction of Learning, Cognition, and Psychological Processes 

Oftentimes individuals struggling with academic problems also have problems with self-esteem, anxiety, anger and/or other personality, social and emotional problems. This evaluation seeks to understand both problems related to learning (reading, writing, mathematics) as well as other influencing psychological factors. Imagine a child who is struggling with reading fluency and comprehension. If they have a predisposition to symptoms of anxiety, these symptoms will likely be exacerbated each time the child is asked to read, answer questions or be tested on learning skills that they have not yet mastered. This evaluation looks at both areas (learning and psychological) to get a better understanding of how the child/adolescent learns and what skills they need to develop to be successful. 

Also included in this evaluation is a comprehensive report with explanation of test results, accurate diagnosis, recommendations for academic, home and therapeutic environments, and appropriate referrals. Parents should expect to spend approximately 1-3 hours for the intake interview and to complete parent evaluation forms, up to 8 hours of child/adolescent/young adult testing and 1-2 hours for the feedback session. During the feedback session parents are invited to meet with the evaluator to review testing results, discuss recommendations and ask questions. A physical copy of the report will be provided to the parents at the feedback session.
